Pens and notebooks are the tools of my trade. Finding stationery with the exact qualities I covet can be difficult.
Some thoughts:
- The best type of pen is the pen that makes you want to write.
- I like grid paper. Blank paper is too intimidating. Lined paper is too restrictive.
- The crinkle of used Tomoe River Paper is one of the best sensations in the world.
- I want to like fountain pens, but I find them too fussy.
- There are too many great notebooks and not enough time or use cases for them.
Some pens:
- I love Pilot Precise V5 pens, but they smear on Tomoe River Paper.
- I think the Parker Jotter is the best-looking pen out there. I use a Space Pen refill in mine.
- The Uni Jetstream is a super reliable pen and the one I use most day-to-day.
- The LAMY Safari is very low maintenance as far as fountain pens go.
Some notebooks:
- I use the Mnemosyne N165 for its grid paper and its spiral binding, which allows the notebook to lay flat on my desk.
- The Field Notes National Parks series features my favorite notebook covers.
- I love the idea of the Grids and Guides notebook, but I’m not sure how I would use it.
- Nanami makes beautiful notebooks with Tomoe River Paper.
Some planners and journals:
- I use the Brilliant Weekly Scheduler as my desk calendar.
- Traveler’s Company notebooks are great for people who love accessorizing.
- Hobonichi makes wonderful planners with Tomoe River Paper.
- Poketo makes beautiful quarterly goal planners.
- Baron Fig is always coming out with new guided journals.
